Its Oscars night and TeethWise has taken a look at the celebrities smiles on the red carpet this year. By the way these actors have attained their Hollywood smiles through good dental care, teeth whitening and other cosmetic techniques so you too can have a Hollywood smile.
And the award for best teeth at the Oscars goes to…………
Matthew McConaughey acted in two of the best picture nominees this year and is the favourite to pick up best actor award for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey has great teeth but is very committed to good dental health. The movie star has previously admitted to strategically placing toothbrushes around his house. He said “Toothbrushes. Has anyone ever told you that you’re brushing your teeth too often? I’ve never heard of that. I have a toothbrush in my car, in my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen. I have them all over the house, I brush all the time – I figure you can’t do it too much.” TeethWise salutes your dedicated to dental hygiene Matthew.
Jonah Hill wore fake prosthetic teeth for his part in the movie through which he initially found it very difficult to talk. The nominee for best supporting actor has crooked teeth himself which could be the reason he often opts for the closed mouth smile on the red carpet.
American Hustle star Christian Bale previously won best actor for The Fighter. Bale got his teeth fixed up for his role as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho but he regrets doing it. He told Esquire magazine: “When I did ‘American Psycho’ I did fix my very English teeth, which I miss dearly. But Bateman couldn’t have had the teeth I had. I kept a mould of my old ones because I did like them and knew I’d miss them.” Other people would disagree and Bales teeth have their own facebook page now with 160 likes.
Bales co-star in American Hustle Amy Adams has a beautiful smile these days but again that wasn’t always the case. Adams told the Mirror that when she was a kid her sister punched her in the face and knocked out her teeth. Ouch!!
Dame Judi Dench looks great for her age but adding fuel to the British stereotype her teeth are among the worst on the Hollywood red carpet.
It is possible for most people to have smiles like these celebrities. There are 3 common techniques that celebrities use to give them great smiles:
Zoom Teeth Whitening which is a relatively simple procedure for your dentist to perform. Your dentist will apply a protective gel to your gums and soft tissue of the mouth, before applying a bleaching agent to your teeth. A light is applied to your teeth to activate the bleaching agent. Teeth Whitening treatments take 30 minutes to one hour and you may need several sessions. Make sure to see a registered dentist if you are considering teeth whitening.
Lots of celebrities use porcelain Veneers to achieve the brightest smiles. Veneers are a porcelain cap which are used to cover any chipped, stained or miscoloured teeth. A small amount of enamel will be scraped from your teeth before placing to create space for the veneers to be placed. Veneers are fitted in a two stage process and should last for up to 10 years once fitted.
For more extreme smile makeovers, short term orthodontics, such as Invisalign, Inman Aligner and Six Month Smiles can be used. These systems provide an aesthetically pleasing orthodontic solution by focussing on correcting the position of your more prominent front teeth. These short term orthodontic systems often do not need to be connected permanently to your teeth, giving you more freedom. They are fast acting and results can be see in as little as three months but will often take longer.
