A dental crown worn by Elvis Presley is coming to a town near you. The “King’s Crown” is touring dental practices in the UK to raise awareness for mouth cancer. The tour involves a genuine dental crown which was made for the star by his former dentist Henry J Weiss and will be accompanied around 11 UK based dental clinics by Elvis impersonators. Dentists at participating clinics will be providing free mouth cancer screenings in potentially the most fun you’ll ever have at the dentist.
There are, on average, almost 6,500 new cases of mouth cancer diagnosed in the UK each year resulting in over 1,900 deaths annually. Anyone can be affected by mouth cancer, whether they have their own teeth or not. Mouth cancers are more common in people over 40, particularly men. However, research has shown that mouth cancer is becoming more common in younger patients and in women.
The tour will include the following dental clinics so if you’re an Elvis fan or concerned about mouth cancer get in touch to make an appointment at your local clinic for a free mouth cancer screening. Alternatively please contact TeethWise, if you would like any more information.
Participating Clinics
We expect clinics to be added so please check back if you would like more information.
Canadian dentist Dr Michael Zuk has donated the crown for the purpose of the tour. Dr Zuk purchased the former rock stars crown at auction in February 2012 for £6,500. Dr Zuk, a collector of dead celebrities teeth, has previously purchased John Lennon’s tooth from which he has plans to clone the former Beatle.
